Clean Eating Tips - Jan 5, 2014

It's a NEW YEAR... 2014! I just love the concept of starting over. A fresh start. Most new year's resolutions include becoming healthy and losing weight. My first recommendation for those wanting to lose weight is to start with their diet.

I've found that for most people adhering to a healthy eating plan is the most difficult part of becoming healthier and losing weight. It's ironic that nutrition accounts for over 80% of your progress! Other factors attribute to your weight loss success and optimal health such as consistent fat-burning cardio and resistance training but your efforts will be futile without building a sound nutritional foundation. I want to share with you a few principles that have helped my clients and I with weight loss. It is important to note that everyone is different. We all have different needs and require different macronutrients. These are general clean eating principles. Use one or more to help you build a more sound nutrition plan and stick to your new year's resolution. Xo

1. Eat 4-6 small meals daily

2. Try eating every 3-4 hours to keep blood sugar stable

3. Avoid refined foods

4. Include lean proteins, fruits, whole grains and vegetables

5. Try preparing your meals and snacks in advance

6. Limit your sugar and alcohol intake

7. Try combine lean proteins with complex carbs to avoid spikes in insulin levels

8. Avoid buying foods that you can't eat responsibly. We all have them, if you can't eat is responsibly keep it out of your pantry

9. Track your food. Keeping a food journal helps you troubleshoot weak areas in your diet

10. Drink more water, aim for 1/2 your body weight in ounces or multiply your weight by 2/3 to determine water intake
